Why are Well Visits important?

Well Visits are an integral part of making sure your child is growing and developing well. Besides providing routine healthcare to your child, well visits are important because they are effective in preventing and detecting illnesses and problems before severe symptoms arise.

Visiting a Pediatrician for well visits allows you the opportunity to ask questions and receive answers about your child’s health. Delaying these visits can put your child at greater risk of illness or receiving needed intervention. Many common developmental delays are discovered during routine checks with a Pediatrician and early intervention makes a big difference in getting your child the support they need.

What to expect at a Well Visit?

During a Well Visit, your Pediatrician will determine whether your child is meeting their growth and developmental milestones. Well visits focus on helping to maintain your child’s health by monitoring several significant areas to help ensure their health and to identify conditions that may not openly manifest themselves. Important aspects of these visits include:

  • Determining if there are any sudden changes in your child’s usual activity, mood and overall health
  • Providing vaccinations for childhood diseases and common conditions
  • Performing a sports physical for children who want to participate in competitive sports
  • Getting to know your child’s diet, nutrition, sleeping pattern
  • Helping your child establish healthy habits and providing tips to family for reinforcing these at home
  • Providing age and behavior-based counseling
  • Providing an opportunity to ask questions for both you and your child

Please see the table for the Well-Visit schedule.

What are some common reasons children visit a Pediatrician during sickness?

Children are prone to many illnesses and often they have disturbing symptoms or discomfort. It is important to receive care early on for some of the common conditions such as fever, difficulty breathing, ear infection, viral infection, headache, cough, congestion, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, rash, Urinary tract infection (UTI), and more. Please schedule your same day appointment for sick visits online or call us at the office at 732-554-0420.
